i am actually doing rather well with my fabric diet. i have been out of work (though that should, hopefully fingers crossed) come to an end within the next two weeks, so admittedly i have not had the finances to swing major fabric purchases but Mid has been nice enough to finance some fabric purchases lately.
most of my fabric purchases lately have been for flannel for pad cores. i have some fabric to upcycle into cores but i haven’t had the heart to do it lately, and i’m not sure why. i think that it honestly may be sheer laziness in that i find it easier to just take out my yard or two long piece of lannel and just cut instead of trying to lay out patterns on a t shirt or other upcycled piece. i should try to upcycle more of my stuff though because it’ll be that much less to store and i will be able to use that space for actual top fabrics once i move in with Mid.
i have purchased a couple of fat quarters, though nothing exciting. i’m trying to purchase more yellows and oranges because i noticed that my stash is heavy on reds and cool colors. i picked up three fat quarters at walmart recently and that was the only recent top pieces i’ve purchased in the recent past.
right now i’m working on cutting down on my stash. i recently donated a dozen pads so i’m working on getting more stock done. i am working on coffee cuffs as my ‘public’ sewing project, which is great for using up smaller pieces. the problem is that i have a ton of smaller pieces, lol. i started working on bitterball again and have several blocks sewn together already. i need to decide how large i am making this quilt and how heavy. i also found a bag full of squares for two patchwork projects that i had started cutting material for that i had forgotten about- the skirt that i wanted for sirius rising (hah) and the headwrap.
i’m currently generating more ideas for the blog. i’m working on pattern weights for myself and for Yule gifts, and if i like them well enough i may list them on the blog as well. once i get a machine i’m thinking of getting back into bag sewing. i can do the fronts by hand but not the straps, unless i rethink my methods.
i already have a very long and growing list of things that i would like to pick up from etsy or ebay, and that can get me into trouble. right now i’m planning on going back on my use 5, purchase 1 plan that i had been using. i’ve already budgeted fabric money into my money outlook because i know that i’ll get into trouble if i don’t.
